Yes it is.

Sometimes in order to fill a single order for a quantity of pipe or even steel plate, the supplier will not have a large enough quantity of pipe from one heat or ladle #, so will fill the order with with pipe or steel with as many heats or ladle #’s as required.

This is especially true if you are buying from a warehouse rather than direct from the mill.

It doesn’t really make any any difference as long as you get all the correct paperwork.
